The 2024 Junktown Film Festival is proud to present 15 short films from across the United States and around the world, ranging from 3 to 22 minutes.

The Festival will be held at the Avalon Theater in downtown Grand Junction, CO. Doors will open at 6:00 p.m. and the festival will begin at 7:00 p.m. It will run for approximately two and half hours.

Note that some films contain mature language and/or subject matter and are recommended for ages 15 and up.

All filmmakers with films accepted into the festival will receive two complimentary tickets that may be picked up at the theater box office.

As Easy as Closing Your Eyes (21:43) dir. Parker Croft - The story of a grieving mother who battles her addiction to a black-market drug that gives her life-like dreams about the son she lost.

Beatdown (9:03) dir. Jackson Lowry - Chris Leboto, a wrestler pursuing a career in music, grapples with setbacks in both arenas. After a disappointing loss in the ring and facing writer's block before a critical recording session, Chris must draw inspiration from his mentor's advice on perseverance and self-discovery.

Brain Break (4:17) dir. Gretchen Kowalczyk - Brain Break is a film about an artists acceptance of failure. Sometimes we just can't make it work, and that's okay. Stepping away and living life is just as important as your craft, even if the only thing that comes out of it is a good day.

Caught in the Act (3:54) dir. Eric Hernandez, Matt Thornton - After Richard arrives home with his suspiciously dead victim, he moves to dispose of the body under the concealment of the night. However, his normally straightforward plans are continually interrupted by his curious and helpful neighbors who can’t stand to see a handsome man "gardening" at night by himself.

Cremains Unknown (10:34) dir. Jake Dagel - Danielle McCarthy, a Gold Star wife, unexpectedly lost her husband, David, a U.S. Veteran, in 2017. His body was brought to Sunset Mesa in Montrose, Colorado to be cremated. One day, she received a call from the FBI informing her that the cremains she had may not be her husband after all.

Dear Father (6:34) dir. Levi Kramer - The son of a recently deceased post-Edwardian frontiersman goes on a journey to find the resting place of his father. Along the way he finds the cabin his parents married in and has a vision of where to find his father. The son's journey takes him through many visions and memories of life before his father's passing. The son's journey is finding his peace amongst the nature of loss.

Inside Cookie’s Mind (3:46) dir. Alexis Vivino - A recently adopted cat becomes acquainted with her new home through the use of catnip.

Interlude (13:00) dir. Michael Gallegos - A man going through the motions, Danny’s life revolves around him repeating the same day again and again. It’s not until his routine is knocked off balance that he realizes that he may need something more.

Peach Street Distillers (5:20) dir. Brandon Jacob - A mini-documentary of Colorado's first legally independently owned distillery, Peach Street Distillers.

Secret Menu Beauty Pageant (14:59) dir. Frankie Campisano, SG Egan - An offbeat odyssey into the world of dead shopping malls, fast food secret menus, and basement beauty pageants.

Soraya (8:24) Dir. Maryam Rahimi - Fearing family prejudices, Soraya an Iranian woman decides to immigrate illegally by smugglers.

Teaser Trailer (3:04) dir. JJ Gibson - TEASER TRAILER is a fast-paced, off-the-wall, cosmic horror-comedy that satirizes modern action movie marketing. The film takes the familiar stereotypes of classic film genres and turns them on their head to create something wild, crazy, and unapologetically silly.

Vas Mar (19:06) dir. Nima Tabandeh - Nowruz (the Iranian New Year) is near. The old man is busy doing things to welcome spring, but the old woman is desperate for life and keeps grumbling that she will die soon and why no one is with them and they are alone. But the old man says that they should live with hope as long as they are alive.

Venus or Bust (5:29) dir. Connor Rea - Two aliens, Glico and Ezaki, crash land on Earth on their way to Las Venus.

Wick (5:30) dir. Kayling Iris Taylor - In this suspenseful drama-thriller 'Wick,' a young girl's life is inexplicably bound to a mysterious candle that, if extinguished, spells her doom.
